Peerumedu-An exotic hill station in Kottayam-ideal for long walks and honeymoon trips

Peerumedu is a lovely hill station, an ideal retreat in the Western Ghats and a choice break for tourists to the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Peerumedu, situated in Kottayam District, snuggled at an altitude of 914 m above sea level, on the way to Thekkady, is one of the exotic locations in Kerala.

The famous plantation town takes its name from Peer Mohammad, a Sufi saint and close associate of the erstwhile royal family of Travancore. Little wonder then, that the former Rajas of Travancore sought this tiny hill station out as their summer resort.

Located around 85 km to the east of Kottayam, the weather of Peerumedu is invitingly cool and moist, a perfect excuse for that weekend getaway to Peerumedu. Surrounded by rich plantations of tea, coffee, cardamom, rubber and eucalyptus, the entirety of Peerumedu is enveloped with a fragrance that is heady and delightfully intoxicating!

One can see pine forests with natural grass lands and small small waterfalls here. these all makes the Peerumedu, a perfect summer resort.

The green slopes of the region are also the perfect place for newly weds to be if they are keen on a honeymoon in Peerumedu.

Peerumedu and its surroundings are very much ideal for trekking, cycling and horse riding.

Other beauty spots near Peerumed are Kuttikkanam and Thrissanku Hills.

Kuttikkanam is ideal for adventure tourism and trekking and is just 3Km away from Peerumedu.

Thrissanku hills is 4 km away from Peerumedu. The rolling hills, the lovely greenish landscape and the gentle breeze offers you a memorable long Walks... The hills is a perfect place for seeing and enjoying the breathtaking Sunrise and Sunset...

Peerumedu is 85 kms east to Kottayam (travel time: 2 hours), on the way to Thekkady. There are frequent bus services from nearby cities of Kumily and Kottayam. The nearest railway station to Peerumedu is at Kottayam. A number of well- maintained roads connect Peerumedu to the other major cities of Kerala as well as a number of neighboring cities which actually fall in Tamil Nadu.
